Visiting the Marvel Exhibit

Since we bought tickets ages ago, we decided to laugh in the face of the Delta variant of Covid and wade into the partially masked crowds at the Museum of Science and Industry. Actually, they had reservation times spread out probably every ten minutes, so the crowds were fairly spread out and there was plenty of room to breathe. I’d say half the crowd was masked.

I tend to keep track of these things. Especially since the edict had already come down from on high that everyone entering buildings in Chicago has to mask up. but crowd wise, it wasn’t bad.

We did see some cool stuff, a mix between comic books, with write ups on the past, framed original artwork, and tributes to creators…

…plus several life size statues of characters to pose with…

…and of course several characters displayed as their Marvel Cinematic Universe versions.

I think the main representative thrust of the exhibit does focus more on the MCU/movie versions of the characters. This probably explains why there’s very little X-men to be had. In fact, if you’re mostly an X-men fan, and don’t care about much else, you probably wouldn’t get a lot out of the exhibit.

I think the only reason the Fantastic Four are featured as much as they are is because of their being right there as the first comic in the Marvel age of comics in the 1960’s.

Sadly, this is probably as close as we’ll ever get to my long standing wish for a superhero museum, but it’s a fun diversion on a Saturday afternoon.
